Accounting Intern Requirements & Responsibilities

Position Summary

As an Accounting Intern, you will assist with a variety of general accounting and payroll task, contributing to the department’s goals and objectives with efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness.

Essential Job Functions

To perform this position successfully, the following responsibilities must be performed satisfactorily. These functions are representative, but not all-inclusive, of what is necessary to succeed in this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential job functions. The following responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Review timecards and apply foremen’s rates where applicable
  • Assist with employee reimbursements
  • Generate payroll reports, including safety and certified payroll reports
  • Establish new vendors in the system
  • Process Accounts Payable transactions
  • Reconcile Accounts Payable statements
  • Prepare and submit Accounts Receivable invoices
  • Maintain general accounting files and records
  • Handle receipt and submission of sales tax exemption certificates
  • Provide backup support for other Accounting department team members as needed
  • Undertake special assignments, additional projects, or other job-related duties as required to fulfill the responsibilities of this position

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, with 2-3 years of coursework completed.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), with advanced skills in Excel.
  • Solid understanding of accounting and bookkeeping principles and practices.
  • High degree of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues and maintain an approachable demeanor.
  • Demonstrates a high level of integrity, trustworthiness, and honesty.
