Position Summary
The Safety Coordinator plays a key role in supporting both the field and administrative functions of the Safety Department to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. This position is responsible for assisting with the development and execution of safety programs, performing job site safety visits and inspections, conducting training sessions, managing records, and helping coordinate safety equipment and events. The Safety Coordinator works closely with the Safety Director and interacts with employees at all levels of the organization to promote a proactive safety culture.
Essential Job Functions

- Assist the Safety Director in reviewing and updating safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct job site safety visits and inspections at HMI facilities and field locations, including monthly safety audits, fire extinguisher checks, and AED reviews.
- Participate in pre-job and post-job meetings to discuss safety measures and potential hazards.
- Facilitate new hire orientations and safety training sessions; help schedule and track training compliance.
- Maintain and update safety training records, including uploading materials and certifications to Autodesk, Rivet, and shared drives.
- Support ongoing training efforts by dispatching online training modules, tracking completions, and ensuring quiz accuracy.
- Coordinate and distribute weekly toolbox talks, and monitor participation.
- Help organize safety-related events, meetings, and recognition initiatives.
- Maintain safety-related supplies, including PPE and first aid kits, and coordinate inventory levels and ordering with vendors.
- Manage and organize safety documentation, audit reports, JSA participation logs, and the FOCUS safety newsletter.
- Communicate safety updates, expectations, and concerns effectively throughout the organization.
- Perform special assignments or job-related duties as needed to support the Safety Department.
- Develop and implement corrective actions to address identified safety issues and prevent recurrence.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent safety or construction field experience will be considered.
- OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 certification, or willingness to obtain; must also be willing to take other safety-related courses as needed.
- Working knowledge of workplace safety practices and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn new systems.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Confident communicator with the ability to collaborate across departments and interact with field and office personnel.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and adaptable with a positive, team-oriented approach.
