The Challenge

HMI encountered several challenges during this convent project. Starting the underground plumbing in the middle of winter presented immediate difficulties for the extensive two-story, 30-room facility with a large chapel and full-size commercial kitchen. The small corridor designated for all mechanical systems created spatial constraints, leading to numerous clashes with other trades throughout the project. Additionally, the well remained unenergized until the project’s end, preventing our team from testing the plumbing systems until the final stages and requiring careful coordination to ensure everything functioned properly upon activation.

The Solution

Adapting to the spatial constraints, our team at HMI strategically rerouted plumbing drains and water piping to different locations, successfully avoiding clashes with other trades. We maintained close collaboration with other contractors throughout the project, fostering a cooperative environment that allowed for effective problem-solving as challenges arose. Our team’s flexibility and proactive communication ensured that despite the delayed well energization, all systems were properly positioned and ready for testing when the time came. This collaborative approach extended to working alongside the property’s development of the pond, courtyard, and visitor housing areas.

The Results

Ultimately, HMI delivered a fully functional plumbing system for this beautiful religious facility, creating a welcoming home for the sisters. The project stood out as exceptionally well-organized, with all parties working harmoniously toward a shared goal. The sisters expressed deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication our team brought to the project, while our crew was touched by the sisters’ continuous prayers for their safety and success. This project exemplified the meaningful impact HMI can have beyond technical execution, contributing to a facility that will serve the religious community for years to come.
