Position Summary

The Electrical Sales Engineer will be responsible for designing and selling integrated electrical systems tailored to customer needs and specific building specifications. This role emphasizes building strong customer relationships and managing the design development of projects. The primary focus is on selling design/build services, while the secondary responsibility is to collaborate with the project management team to ensure a smooth handoff and successful project outcomes.

  • Sales Responsibilities:
    • Manage a “book of business” by building and maintaining strong customer relationships.
    • Evaluate existing building systems and provide recommendations to meet customer objectives.
    • Prepare and present comprehensive proposal letters, including project descriptions, scope of work, assumptions, and cost estimates.
    • Follow up with customers to secure project commitments and close sales.
    • Obtain and finalize project estimates from the estimation team, approving job pricing to maintain profit margins while ensuring competitive, consistent pricing structures.
    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to expand the company’s market share in electrical design/build services.
    • Establish and maintain regular follow-up routines with clients to support long-term relationship development and repeat business.
    • Work with internal teams to ensure total customer satisfaction throughout the sales and execution process.
    • Stay informed on industry trends, competitor activity, and internal initiatives to drive sales strategy.
  • Design Responsibilities:
    • Design integrated electrical systems based on customer input, ensuring compliance with building codes, ordinances (e.g., ASHRAE), and industry standards.
    • Develop complete design documentation including scope of work, drawings, engineering calculations, and cost estimates.
    • Collaborate with project management and production teams to determine manpower requirements and plan for efficient execution.
    • Provide all necessary engineering documentation and ongoing technical support during the construction phase.
    • Communicate design intent effectively to internal teams and clients, addressing any conflicts or revisions during construction.
    • Utilize applicable software systems (e.g., project management tools, spreadsheets, AutoCAD, estimating tools) to solve design challenges and facilitate workflow.
    • Promote and exemplify adherence to all current safety protocols and encourage team-wide compliance.
    • Attend internal training programs and external seminars to stay updated on design standards, best practices, and industry changes.
    • Perform special assignments or additional projects as needed to support team and company objectives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licensed Electrical Designer, Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), or actively pursuing PE licensure preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in the MEP field with a strong technical background in electrical systems and products.
  • Understanding of LEED principles; LEED AP certification preferred.
  • Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills; strong collaborator across departments.
  • Effective communicator with diverse audiences, including designers, clients, project managers, and office staff.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to remain calm and solutions-focused under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel); experience with Adobe Acrobat a plus.
  • Physical ability to access job sites, including climbing, crawling, walking, and kneeling for inspections.
