Position Summary
In this role, your primary focus will initially be completing accurate duct takeoffs to support the estimating team. As you develop in the position, you will gain experience analyzing plans and developing cost estimates for both design/build and plan & spec projects within the HVAC, plumbing, and process piping trades. Key responsibilities include reviewing and interpreting blueprints and customer specifications, identifying project bid requirements, and calculating labor and material costs. You will collaborate with the estimating team and project managers to facilitate successful project handoffs, contributing to the overall efficiency and profitability of the organization.

- Work the required schedule and hours to meet deadlines and support the estimating team.
- Perform accurate duct takeoffs as the primary responsibility of the role, while developing knowledge of estimating practices across HVAC, plumbing, and process piping systems.
- Use estimating software to calculate labor and material costs for duct, piping, insulation, and plumbing systems.
- Review and interpret plans and specifications.
- Identify project bid requirements, scope of work, critical schedules, non-standard conditions, cost impacts, material and equipment requirements, safety and compliance requirements, risk considerations, and other project-specific requirements.
- Assist with duct, piping, and plumbing details, including system sizing, calculations, capacities, equipment selection, design drawings, code compliance, and related design data.
- Learn and utilize internal estimating software and processes.
- Prepare proposal and bid submittal documents for plan & spec projects and assist with design/build proposals.
- Facilitate project handoffs by communicating estimate information to Project Managers.
- Attend pre-bid meetings as needed.
- Collaborate with contractors and vendors to gather information necessary for successful bids.
- Assist Project Managers with change orders and budget adjustments.
- Stay current with estimating software updates and industry standards.
- Participate in company training programs and attend external conferences or seminars as needed.
- Perform special assignments, additional projects, and other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work experience.
- Prior estimating experience in mechanical contracting is preferred but not required.
- Experience interpreting construction drawings or completing quantity takeoffs, particularly for ductwork, is preferred.
- Proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and internet resources.
- Experience with estimating software is preferred.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn, accept constructive feedback, and continuously develop technical knowledge.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Professional demeanor with a commitment to quality and customer service.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
