Bellin Health Clinic
New Clinic requires massive plumbing work
The Challenge
A massive plumbing project that normally would have been executed over one year was done in six months. In this limited time, Hurckman Mechanical was charged with doing all groundwork after the structure was built, pre-fabricating sinks, and creating design/build solutions for open piping. Exam rooms all required sinks–130 in all plus 35 toilets in main lavatories and restrooms. A two story atrium in the building provided no areas for piping due to the open design.
The Solution
In order to meet the aggressive timeline, crews pre-fabricated all 130 sinks in the Hurckman shop. At the site, unexpected clear winter weather meant foundations, studs and exterior sheeting were completed before groundwork began. Hurckman crews had to accurately lay out ground piping using a small excavator inside the building while other contractors were pouring concrete on the floors above them. Exacting measurements allowed 2″ piping for more than 100 sinks placed in a precise grind work.
The Results
Physicians and support staff had a non-negotiable occupancy deadline. Thanks to pre-planning and fast work on site, crews were able to meet the deadline and deliver a quality product.
