UW-Green Bay Residence Hall
4-story building with 100 residence bathrooms, kitchenettes, roof drains and complex storm piping
The Challenge
The primary challenge at the UW-Green Bay Residence Hall was positioning pipe penetrations with fireproof sleeves accurately due to pour-in-place decking. Accommodating required piping for bathrooms and kitchenettes in confined chases, alongside other mechanical trades, posed additional difficulties. Transporting materials to each floor presented logistical challenges, particularly with the basement located beneath incoming utilities, necessitating multiple inground pits. The underground plumbing had to be executed after the first floor was in place, with the limitation of using small excavators contributing to a slower process.
The Solution
Effective coordination with Plumbing Foreman Ryan Fischer and the design department played a pivotal role in the solution. Leveraging our fabrication department for most of the piping and fixtures streamlined the installation process, ensuring efficiency and optimal project outcomes.
The Results
Despite facing challenges and maintaining a tight schedule, the project demonstrated resilience and adaptability. Strategic manpower allocation, particularly on Fridays, enabled us to not only meet but exceed the demands of the timeline, showcasing our commitment to efficient project management.
Your group and subcontractors were excellent to work with and should be commended for a superior installation and excellent attitude. I’ve been doing this for 35 years, and I cannot think of a better bunch of people to work with us.
